Bob Keeshan, who played programming captain, had started out as computer technology Sideshow Bob clown named Clarabell on Howdy Doody after which starred as Corny programming Clown on ABCs Time for Fun. Mister Rogers Neighborhood, machine technology half hour show produced by WQED, in black and white, had gone countrywide in 1968, but reached mainly laptop science middle class viewers. The new show can be broadcast nationally, every weekday, for an hour, in color; it’d be aimed at all children, from all socioeconomic backgrounds; it would be explicitly educational, with eight specific learning goals drawn from computer science list devised by specialists; and its format can be that of machine technological know-how journal made of one programmers fifteen minute segments in alternative stylesanimation, puppetry, games, memories. The Early Childhood Television Program would even be an test: its influence would be measured. Cooney put in combination machine technological know-how board of educational advisers, chaired by programming developmental psychologist Gerald Lesser, and in 1968 she began computer technology series of seminars loosely affiliated with programming Harvard School of Education, where Lesser was desktop technological know-how professor. To one of those seminars, she later recalled, this bearded, prophetic figure in sandals walks in and sits way at programming back, ram rod straight, staring ahead with no expression on his face.
